Siba, 5, fled violence in northern Hama, #Syria, just before Eid al-Fitr, the holiday marking the end of Ramadan. She’s now living with her family in a makeshift camp near the Turkish border. “We can’t celebrate Eid here,” she says. “We used to have nice food and I would get ice cream and a new doll on Eid. I wish my parents and I could go to the amusement park like we do on Eid day.” Unicef’s partners are on the ground in the northwest, working to reach children and families with mobile health clinics, immunization and nutrition services, psycho-social support and water and sanitation supplies. #ForEveryChild: Safety. Nour, 12, took a blanket with her when she left Syria. “I still have feelings when I cover myself in this blanket. I feel sadness thinking about the old beautiful days in Syria. But I also feel protected and safe.” Nour tells us from Za’atari refugee camp, Jordan. “This is my blanket. When I was little and it was my birthday, my grandmother bought it for me… I remember that we had to flee because there was bombing. It was night time. That’s why we came here… I was covered in it when I was little and I came here. It protected me against the cold and the rain. I was scared but my mother held me… I still have feelings when I cover myself in this blanket. I feel sadness thinking about the old beautiful days in Syria. But I also feel protected and safe.” Nour dreams of becoming a teacher. Photo: Unicef 2018 Herwig #worldrefugeeday
